Insulate Your Pipes with Spray Foam

Spray foam insulation has the highest R-value of any form of insulation on the market. A couple of applications with about a 3-inch thickness will control temperature and is also a noise barrier when applied to walls and attic crawl spaces.

Turn Down the Water Heater’s Temperature

Most water heaters are set at 140 degrees, this can be lowered quite a bit during the warmer months.

Perform a Water Main Leak Check

A leaky faucet can waste hundreds of gallons of water a year not to mention a water main. If you turn off all appliances and faucets for 3 hours if the meters continue to move, then you leak.

Install Low-Flow Shower Heads and Faucets

Don’t know if you need a low-flow showerhead?

  • Place a bucket — marked in gallon increments — under your shower head.
  • Turn on the shower at the normal water pressure you use.
  • Time how many seconds it takes to fill the bucket to the 1-gallon (3.8 liters) mark.
