Insulate Your Pipes with Spray Foam

Spray foam insulation has the highest R value of any form of insulation on the market. A couple of applications with about a 3 inch thickness will control temperature and is also a noise barrier when applied to walls and attic crawl spaces.

Turn Down the Water Heater Temperature

Most water heaters are set at 140 degrees, this can be lowered quite a bit during the warmer months.

Perform a Water Main Leak Check

A leaky faucet can waste hundreds of gallons of water a year not to mention a water main. If you turn off all appliances and faucets for 3 hours, if the meters continue to move then you have a leak.

Install Low-Flow Shower Heads and Faucets

Don't know if you need a low-flow shower head?

  1. Place a bucket -- marked in gallon increments -- under your shower head.
  2. Turn on the shower at the normal water pressure you use.
  3. Time how many seconds it takes to fill the bucket to the 1-gallon (3.8 liter) mark.

If it takes less than 20 seconds to reach the 1-gallon mark, you could benefit from a low-flow shower head. Read for more energy saving tips here

“Green” It Up With Climate Design

This is an example of what happens when pipes are improperly installed. The customer had hard water and the calcium had collected and began eating the PVC pipe. You understand how this can get ugly very quickly when hidden behind a wall.

Improperly installed piping can damage your home and impede the flow of water, causing other issues that will need repair. Contact us if you need a home tune up to Green your home for St. Patricks Day 1-973-457-4627
